H.H. Pope Tawadros II held a consultative meeting today in the presence of: H.G. Bishop Daniel, bishop of Maadi & El-Basateen and General Secretary of the Holy Synod; H.G. Bishop Biemen, bishop of Naqada and Qus; and Engineer Kamil Michel, member of the Egyptian Senate regarding the recent events that took place at the Monastery of the Sultan in Jerusalem.
The meeting confirmed the ownership of this monastery by the Coptic Orthodox Church and that the latter possesses all documents and grounds to prove this ownership.
The Church rejects all means and methods seeking to falsify the historical facts of this ancient monastery, asserting to claim all its rights, and that it will use all legal avenues until it recovers the usurped monastery.
The Church appeals to the Israeli authorities and courts to implement the previous judicial rulings that confirm the Coptic Orthodox Church’s ownership of the monastery and the need for it to be handed over.
Throughout the past decades, the Church has been keen onfollowing peaceful resolutions and legal methods in dealing with this case; adhering to all wisdom and reason to the extent that itdoes not prejudice its right to its ownership of the monastery, which is something it does not, nor will it allow to be affected under any circumstances or justifications, whilst recognizing the undeniable fact of its historical rights to this monastery.
