Today H.H. Pope Tawadros II congratulated the Grand Imam His Eminence Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb the honourable Sheikh of al-Azhar on Eid al-Adha – to be celebrated by our Muslim brothers next Tuesday.
This afternoon, H.H. Pope Tawadros II accompanied by a church delegation visited the residence of Al-Azhar Institute and they were received by His Eminence the Imam and leaders of the institute.
His Eminence the Imam welcomed H.H. the Pope and accompanying delegation and expressed his happiness at this visit which could not take place last time due to the novel coronavirus restrictions.
On his part, H.H. the Pope congratulated His Eminence this Imam, and said, “A Happy Feast to all of you. We are glad to return to the exchange of visits that have been denied us under the circumstances caused by the spread of the coronavirus.”
“I congratulate the Egyptian people, and the Arab and Islamic community, on this Feast. Eid al-Adha always carries for us the meaning of sacrifice and offering, a lesson we all need to learn” H.H. added.
The delegation accompanying H.H. the Pope consisted of H.G. Bishop Daniel the bishop of Maadi and secretary of the Holy Synod, H.G. Bishop Ermia the general bishop, H.G. Bishop Yolios the general bishop of the churches in Old Cairo and Bishopric of Services, Heg. Sergius Sergius the patriarchal vicar in Cairo, Hieromonk Kyrillos St. Bishoy the director of the Office of H.H. the Pope, Fr. Boulos Halim the official Spokesperson of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Heg. Moussa Ibrahim the director of the training sector of the Church’s Media Center, and Mr. Girgis Saleh the honorary Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches.
