His Holiness Pope Tawadros II congratulated our Greek Orthodox brothers on the glorious Christmas, which falls today according to the Western calendar.
His Holiness visited the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, in the Hamzawy area in Cairo, this afternoon, accompanied by a church delegation. He was received by His Holiness Patriarch Theodoros II, Patriarch of Alexandria, the ambassadors of Greece and Cyprus, and some metropolitans, where he congratulated them on the occasion of the feast.
His Beatitude the Patriarch welcomed His Holiness the Pope and the accompanying delegation, expressing his appreciation for His Holiness’ visit and his congratulations.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II expressed his happiness at meeting His Beatitude the Patriarch, the bishops, and the ambassadors of Greece and Cyprus, stressing that the birth of Christ gives us blessing, joy, and light.
The delegation accompanying His Holiness consisted of H.E. Metropolitan Morcos, Metropolitan of Shubra El-Kheima, H.G. Bishop Daniel, Bishop of Maadi and the Holy Synod Secretary, H.G. Bishop Ermia, General Bishop, Fr. Sergius Sergius, Patriarchal Vicar in Cairo, Monk Fr. Kirolos St. Bishoy, director of the office of His Holiness, and Fr. Mousa Ibrahim, the official spokesman for the Church, Mr. Gerges Saleh, Honorary Secretary-General of the Middle East Council of Churches, and Deacon Joseph Reda from the Secretary of His Holiness the Pope.
