Today evening, H.H Pope Tawadros II, delivered his weekly Wednesday’s sermon from the Transfiguration Church at the Papal residence at Logos Centre in the monastery of St. Bishoy in Wadi El Natroun.
The sermon was broadcasted from Christian satellite channels and the C.O.C channel of the Church’s Media Centre on the Internet, with a small number of people attending.
Marking Nineveh’s fast that is currently happening in the church, H.H considered the words of the Prophet Jonah: “In forty days after Nineveh was overthrown” as part of his series of sermons, “Deep Sermons in Short Phrases.”
H.H talked about the third digit of Prophet Jonah’s apocalyptic, and explained how a man’s path can be changed in the hands of God, like Prophet Jonah, who turned from a fugitive to a preacher; and mentioned examples from the Holy Bible about changing the path in Man’s life, like:
• The people of Nineveh, from sin, ruin and death to repentance, heaven and life.
• Peter the apostle, after his denial of the Jesus Christ to the sermon on the Day of Pentecost and the faith of 3,000 souls.
• Paul the apostle, from persecution to evangelization (ambassador in chains).
• The Samaritan woman, from a life of sin and then testified that he was Jesus Christ.
• David the prophet, from sin to repentance in Psalm 5o, there are also whom changed their directions to the other extreme way, like: Judas the traitor, Achan the son of Carmi, who was defeated in front of the village of Aii.
H.H pointed to the necessity of following the steps of the people of Nineveh’s reaction to the words of Jonah, with repentance, confession, fasting, practicing spiritual exercises and prostrations (prostration to the earth) and victory over weaknesses.
H.H continued to confirm human repentance and enlightenment of the mind, heart and understanding by looking deeply on the analysis of Bakr’s prayer, as the word of God used by the preacher brings plentiful fruits.
H.H presents throughout February on Wednesdays till the beginning of Lent, a new serious of sermons in his weekly meeting entitled by “Deep Sermons in Short Phrases”; which are phrases mentioned in the Bible verses or quotes by Saints, consisting of a few words but deep down, they are sermons and great benefits for human life.
