Today, H.H. Pope Tawadros II and a number of church’s pontiffs witnessed the celebration of the golden jubilee of the revival of the Theological college in Alexandria, in the theatre of the papal resident in St. Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria.
Where the choir of deacons of the college received H.H and the pontiffs; and H.H unveiled the memorial plaque that relates to the occasion, and they moved through stations that illustrate the history and symbols of the Theological college over fifty years.
The ceremony began with a documentary about the history of the college and its impact as a beacon of culture and church education, then there were parts that the graduates presented about their experiences at collage. H.H also approved the opening document of the Institute for the Study of Bible Sciences in Alexandria under the supervision of the college and the study is awarded a diploma degree, then a documentary “Here is Alexandria” was presented about the future vision for the collage after another fifty years, and the celebration was ended by H.H expressing his happiness concerning the celebration and the occasion, H.H also presented five dreams for the future of the seminary:
1- A large independent building outside St. Mark’s Cathedral, equipped in a manner befitting the Theological college.
2- Increasing the number of holders of postgraduate degrees (Masters and Ph.D.).
3- Increasing the number of external educational missions for college students and graduates.
4- Having a specialized year of study after college, such as a study on climate, health, life matters, or ecumenism.
5- Establishing an internal department in the seminary.
The celebration was attended by, H.G Bishop Salib, Bishop of Mit Ghamr, Dakadous & Bilad El Sharkia, H.G Bishop Pavly, General Bishop of Montaza, H.G Bishop Elarion, General Bishop of West Alexandria, H.G Bishop Hermina, General Bishop of East Alexandria, H.G Bishop Bigol, Bishop & Abbot of St. Mary Muharraq Monastery and Vice Dean of the Theological College in Muharraq, H.G Bishop Mikhael, General Bishop of Hadaia El Qobba & El-Waili, Cairo and Vice Dean of the Theological College in Anba Rewis, in addition to Fr. Abraam Emil, Patriarchal Vicar in Alexandria, Fr. Abram Bashondi, Vice Dean of the Theological College in Alexandria, number of Alexandria’s priests, members of the seminary’s faculty, graduates and students of the seminary.
Today, the Theological College in Alexandria celebrates the golden jubilee of its opening by the late Pope Shenouda III in February 1972.
