This morning H.H. Pope Tawadros II prayed Hosanna Sunday Liturgy at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria, a Feast known popularly as “Palm Sunday”.
The choir of deacons of the cathedral welcomed H.H with palm branches and Cross singing the hymn of Palm Sunday “Ephlogiminus”, and H.H. prayed the Palm Sunday, which includes 12 chapters from the Gospel.
After that, H.H. began the prayers of the Divine Liturgy, and delivered a sermon about the Liturgy, during which he referred to the historical aspect of this day (the Palm Sunday), as he clarified that it is a special day because it is the only day throughout the year in which we live 3 unique manifestations combined: In the early morning the Palm tree cycle, Reading from 4 Gospels during liturgy, general funeral rite.
H.H highlighted the teachings of these rites:
1 – The king of Heaven comes to us to give us longing for a heavenly life, “because so God I love the world until he made his only son, so as not to destroy all those who believe, but they have eternal life.” (John 3: 16).
2- The King of Peace comes to us to make peace, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).
3- The King of Simplicity “Behold, your king is coming, sitting on an ass’s colt” (John 12:15).
4- The king of serving the poor.
H.G. Bishop Pavly, General Bishop of Montaza sector, H.G. Bishop Elarion, General Bishop of Western sector, H.G. Bishop Hermina, General Bishop of Eastern sector and Fr. Abraam Emil, Patriarchal Vicar in Alexandria participated in the prayers along with other priests; as the church was very crowded with people.
