Today, LOGOS Papal Center at the Papal Residence in St. Bishoy’s Monastery, Wadi El Natroun is witnessing the start of the activities of the 12th General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches, with the participation of 17 patriarchs and church leaders, and a total of 21 churches represented by delegations from Eastern Orthodox, Orthodox, Catholic and Evangelical families.
The activities of the General Assembly in this event, which takes the verse “Cheer up! It is I. Do not be afraid.” (Matt. 14:27) as its slogan, is going to be dealing with a number of Middle Eastern Christians’ issues, their challenges, their aspirations, and the strength of their presence in their unity. During their meetings, the participants from the four ecclesiastical families of the council will set a future vision that ensures the strengthening of the ecumenical spirit and the realization of urgent humanitarian and social goals for all the people of the region.
Its activities will continue from today until the end of Friday the 20th of May.
The Coptic Orthodox Church and Egypt are hosting the activities of the General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches for the first time since its establishment in 1974.
