Strategies for the work of the Middle East Council of Churches and the first reading of the draft final statement on the third day of the 12th General Assembly
The activities of the third day of the twelfth general assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches took place today at the Logos Center in the monastery of St. Anba Bishoy in Wadi El Natroun, hosted by the Coptic Orthodox Church.
It included the sessions of the third day of the General Assembly, which is held under the slogan “Cheer up! I am. Do not be afraid!” (Matt. 14:27), on discussions and studies on various theological, human, service and media levels.
The Catholic family led the work of the third day, as the plenary session was chaired by His Beatitude Patriarch Cardinal Mar Louis Raphael Sako, Patriarch of the Chaldeans in Iraq and the world. The session included greetings from representatives of some churches and ecumenical organizations and partners of the Middle East Council of Churches around the world.
The Secretary-General of the Middle East Council of Churches, Dr Michel Abs presented his report, which included all the activities he carried out and the programs he managed and implemented during his tenure, after which the report was discussed by the participants.
The second part of the day included workshops in which discussions revolved around the strategies of the Middle East Council of Churches, which are Diakonia and social service, communication and support, Christian witness and ecumenical relations, dialogue and social cohesion, rehabilitation of social capital, institutional development and sustainability. The discussions concluded with the preparation of a report for each workshop along with a set of recommendations, in preparation for presenting them in the plenary tomorrow.
The third day concluded with a first reading of the draft final statement prepared by the Drafting Committee.
