His Holiness Pope Tawadros II prayed this morning for the liturgy of the ordination of ten new bishops, in the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the New Administrative Capital,
and more than a hundred bishops and patriarchal agents participated in it in Cairo and Alexandria, and the congregation of the monks of the monastery of Saints and councils of priests and people of the new dioceses of bishops.
After the reading of the apricsis and the end of the cycle of resurrection (inside the temple), the procession of the candidates for ordination entered the church, led by the choir of deacons, surrounded by one of the bishops on the right and left, and the people greeted them with applause and ululations.
And His Holiness the Pope explained the steps of the ordination rite.
Then His Holiness prayed a prayer of thanksgiving with the participation of all the attendees. This was followed by the recitation of church rabbis to commemorate the bishop’s father, followed by the students that His Holiness prayed and completed by the bishops,
then the bishops and bishops came forward and put their hands on the new fathers, after which His Holiness began the rite of calling in the name of the Holy Trinity, to each of the monks, in his new episcopal name, amid joy Immersive people present.
The ten new bishops are:
His Grace Bishop Arsanious, Bishop & Abbot of St. Pakhomious Monastery, Hagir Edfu, Aswan.
His Grace Bishop Discoros, Bishop & Abbot of St. John the Short’s Monastery, El Alamein Road.
His Grace Bishop Bishoy, Bishop of Aswan, Kom Ombo & Edfu.
His Grace Bishop Anianos, Bishop of Bani Mazar & Bahnasa.
His Grace Bishop Nofer, Bishop of Shebin El-Qanater.
His Grace Bishop Bisanti, Bishop of Abnoub, Fattah & New Assiut and Abbot of St. Mina Monastery, Abnoub.
His Grace Bishop Ignatius, General Bishop of Mahalla Kubra.
His Grace Bishop Thomas, General Bishop of Monasterial Affairs.
His Grace Bishop Archilides, General Bishop in Toronto & Middle Canada.
His Grace Bishop Gabriel, General Bishop in New Jersey, USA.
In his homily, His Holiness addressed a special message to each of the new bishops, and then gave three general pieces of advice to them:
Focusing on the pastoral role first and foremost.
– Paying attention to projects that provide a real service,
giving an example of establishing schools that benefit the entire Egyptian community, which is reflected in community peace.
– Attention that every diocese is part of the preaching of St. Mark, so the bishop should not separate his diocese from the body of the church, which is the body of Christ.
With the ordination of the ten bishops today, the number of members of the Holy Synod reaches 138, including His Holiness the Pope (president of the Synod) and the two Patriarchal Vicars in Cairo and Alexandria.
