His Holiness Pope Tawadros II met, this afternoon, at the Papal Residence in Alexandria, the directors and officials of schools affiliated with the Coptic Orthodox Church in Alexandria, in the presence of H.G. Bishop Elarion, General Bishop of West Alexandria, and Father Abraam Emile, the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria.
The meeting began with a speech by Fr Abraam Emile, in which he spoke about the importance of this meeting, which is the first of its kind, for three schools affiliated with the Church, which are the Morcossia Language School, the Eyes of Egypt School, and the Rakoty School in western Alexandria.
Fr Boules Awad, the supervisor of the Morcossia Language School, also spoke about the importance of education throughout the history of the Coptic Church until the era of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, which witnessed a huge interest in modern and contemporary education.
The attendees expressed the importance of Coptic schools having a clear and extended message and identity, and not being based on people, but on a strong entity and distinct education that keeps pace with the times.
The meeting concluded with a speech by His Holiness about the importance of education, His Holiness’s personal interest in it, as well as the idea of establishing the Papal Office for Projects to contribute to the establishment and construction of schools and about the idea of establishing Egypt’s Eyes School in King Mariout. His Holiness continued his talk about his constant aspiration to establish a general secretariat for Coptic schools nationwide, with a united identity and vision, as the Coptic Church has 50 operating schools throughout Egypt, and about the importance of the school as a mediator between the family and society and its educational and national role.
