Today (Wednesday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II received at the Papal Residence in Cairo the Chinese Minister of Religions; Mr. Chen Ruifeng, along with his accompanying delegation, and representatives from The Bible Society of Egypt.
His Holiness spoke about the Coptic Orthodox Church and summarized its history, relations, and widespread all over the world, including the Philippines and Indonesia, noting the presence of a number of Coptic families in China.
Pope Tawadros explained that Egyptians have been living together in brotherhood around the Nile River since ancient times, and that our relationship is good with President Sisi, the Egyptian government, Parliament, and the Al-Azhar Foundation, in addition to the leaders of the Christian denominations in Egypt.
For his part, the Chinese minister indicated that the Chinese government supports freedom of religion and the practice of every religion, pointing out that there are different religions in China.
Mr. Chen Ruifeng expressed his hope to strengthen the ties between his country and the Coptic Orthodox Church.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of promoting Chinese religious tourism to Egypt, especially the trail of The Holy Family.
Pope Tawadros praised China’s decision to allow the printing of the Bible in Arabic in China, to serve Arabic-speaking Christians there.
