Today (Friday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II received at the Papal Residence in Saint Bishoy’s Monastery in Wadi El-Natroun, a delegation from the Anglican Church, consisting of archbishops and priests who are participating in the Southern Hemisphere Conference of the Anglican Church; the activities of which are currently taking place in Egypt.
Pope Tawadros welcomed His Eminence Metropolitan Dr. Sami Fawzy; Archbishop of the Alexandria Diocese of the Anglican Church in Egypt, and the two hundred members of the conference, on their current visit to Egypt. He briefly spoke about the history of Egypt and the Coptic Church. His Holiness highlighted that the Egyptians live together in brotherhood around the Nile River, and that they are an ancient nation, with the Egyptian civilization consisting of seven layers of civilizations: Pharaonic, Christian, Islamic (Arabic), African, Mediterranean, Greek, and Roman.
Regarding the Coptic Orthodox Church, His Holiness pointed out the strong relations it has with His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Egyptian government, Parliament, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and all pillars of the state, as well as the Church’s good relationship with all other Churches and the Council of Churches of Egypt. He explained that it is the Church of martyrs, theological education and monasticism. It has two roles: the spiritual role and the societal role.
The archbishops and priests visited the corridors of the Papal Residence and the Papal Library. At the end of the meeting, His Holiness gifted them an icon of the Holy Family as a souvenir.
