Today (Wednesday) H.H. Pope Tawadros II met at the Papal headquarters in St. Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria, with the new Clerical Sub-Council in Alexandria, following the end of the term of the previous council, whose members participated in the meeting. Also present were the general bishops supervising the pastoral sectors in Alexandria, Hegumen Abraam Emil (general deputy of the Patriarchate of Alexandria) and a number of priests.
The meeting included a speech by Hegumen Abraam Emil, Chairman of the council, about the vision and mission of the council, the nature of its service, and the extent of its influence on the entity of the Christian family. Hegumen Karas Ibrahim (Secretary of the Council), then presented some statistics about the council’s service in the previous three years. The fathers of the previous council also presented life experiences from the council’s work during the past years.
The meeting concluded with a speech by His Holiness, in which he praised the work of the previous council, appreciating the efforts of all the fathers and those who worked in it. He pointed to the importance of the council’s work in restoring the Christian family, stressing the need to pay attention to the following:
– Life is an opportunity that must be lived in a correct and fruitful way.
– The importance of the spiritual role of the council.
– The importance of the aspect of mercy in the council’s work.
His Holiness then thanked the fathers who were members of the previous council, wishing success to the members of the new council.
It is worth noting that the term of work of the Clerical Sub-Council lasts three years, and the session of each council begins on the first of July.
