Today (Tuesday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II opened the Rakoty Private Language School, in the Um Zaghyou area of the churches sector in western Alexandria. It is part of the “Eyon Masr” series of schools established by the Coptic Orthodox Church under the umbrella of the Pontifical Office for Projects, and within the framework of H.H. Pope Tawadros II’s vision for the social role of the Church.
His Holiness unveiled the commemorative plaque marking the opening, then visited the school’s various departments and classrooms. Following this, he held a meeting with the school’s workers, then another meeting with the audience and parents.
The opening was attended by the General Bishops supervising the pastoral sectors in Alexandria, Hegumen Abraam Emil (Deputy General of the Patriarchate in Alexandria), Dr. Mohamed Anwar Farag (Dean of the Faculty of Education, Alexandria University), Dr. El-Arabi Abu Zeid (Deputy of the Ministry of Education in Alexandria), Father Antonious Ghattas (Deputy of the Coptic Catholic Patriarchate in Alexandria), and Father Michel Shafik (regional leader of the Catholic schools in Alexandria).
The celebration included several speeches. H.G Bishop Elarion (General Bishop of the churches of the western sector of Alexandria) welcomed His Holiness, pointing out that Pope Tawadros advised to care about building schools for the benefit of our children.
Father Barnaba El-Komos Raphael, the school’s supervisor, confirmed that the idea of the school was presented to His Holiness six years ago, after which, work began to build it based on His Holiness’ recommendations.
Reda Ramses, the school’s dean, highlighted that the school teaches students without using punishment, and that it aims to exercise the mind instead of indoctrination, as it seeks to create a generation with logical thinking. He stressed the importance of the team of staff that was chosen with great care to achieve the desired upbringing goals.
The celebration concluded with a speech by His Holiness, in which he described the Rakoty School as something lovely that we gift to Egypt, and that it is considered a new and successful beginning. Its launch coincides with the start of a new presidential initiative (“Bedaya” initiative), which aims to develop the Egyptian individual, explaining the difference between education by instructions and creativity.
Pope Tawadros highlighted out that a satisfied soul tramples on honey, so in order for a child to become a balanced human being, he must be satisfied from three sources:
1- The home.
2- The school.
3- The religious institution.
