This evening (Sunday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II held a meeting at the Papal Residence in Cairo, with His Grace Bishop Makary, General Bishop of the Churches of Southern Shoubra, and the new Vice Dean of the Theological Seminary College at Anba Rewis, in Cairo, and faculty members at the college, on the occasion of the new academic year.
H.G. Bishop Makary thanked His Holiness for his interest, care, and constant follow-up of the college at the level of its educational process and faculty members, expressing his wishes for this follow-up to continue and to be guided by the directives of His Holiness.
At the beginning of his speech, Pope Tawadros welcomed the audience, congratulating H.G. Bishop Makary on assuming responsibility for the college’s vice deanship, and congratulated everyone on the start of the Coptic New Year and the Feast of the Cross.
Then His Holiness delivered a speech through the verse: “Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach” (Mark 3:14). He spoke about three methods of teaching, which are:
1- Teaching by the word.
2- Teaching by example.
3- Teaching by piety.
He concluded with his sincere wishes for success and excellence in the work of the faculty and students in the new academic year.
Pope Tawadros also thanked His Grace Bishop Mikhail, the former Vice-Dean of the college, for what he provided during his time, noting that the obligations of pastoral service in the Diocese of Helwan require that His Grace devotes himself to them completely.
H.G. Bishop Makary presented some points to His Holiness and they were discussed. Pope Tawadros advised that there be cooperation and coordination between the college and the rest of the seminary colleges, especially the one in Alexandria.
Pope Tawadros conducted an open dialogue with faculty members, during which a number of topics were discussed related to postgraduate studies, teaching methods and how to develop them, and specialized studies through modern methods used in theological education and other sciences. His Holiness recommended the formation of a specialized committee to study and propose mechanisms for developing the educational process at the college.
