This evening (Saturday), Pope Tawadros II met with members of the Coptic Archaeological Society and several specialists who earned master’s and doctoral degrees in Coptic studies from Egyptian universities over the past two years. The meeting marked the conclusion of the fourth annual conference of the Coptic Archaeological Society, which took place over the past two days under the title, “Illuminating Theses in Coptic Studies in Egyptian Universities (4).”
The meeting was attended by heads of departments and professors specializing in Coptic studies from Egyptian universities.
During the meeting, His Holiness listened to summaries of 24 master’s and doctoral theses in various fields of Coptic studies presented during the conference. These included nine doctoral theses and 15 master’s theses.
At the end of the event, Pope Tawadros awarded certificates of appreciation and commemorative gifts to the researchers, members of the Coptic Archaeological Society, and the professors of Coptic studies who were present.
This meeting reflects the His Holiness’ commitment to supporting scientific research, particularly in Coptic studies, as an essential component of Egyptian identity and history.
The event was attended by Dr. Mourad Wahba (President of the Coptic Archaeological Society), Mr. Nabil Farouk (the Society’s Director), and Mr. Youssef Abdullah a (member of the Society).
Also in attendance were Dr. Menna Allah El-Dary (Professor of Archaeology at the Faculty of Archaeology, Ain Shams University, and holder of the Coptic Studies Chair at the American University in Cairo), Dr. Noha Salem (Head of the Department of Greek and Roman Archaeology at the Faculty of Archaeology, Ain Shams University), and Dr. Tarek Mansour (Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Historians in Cairo and Professor at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University).
Other prominent attendees included history and archaeology professors Dr. Atef Naguib, Dr. Naglaa Hamdy, Dr. Ishak Aziz Farig, Dr. Girgis Boshra, Dr. Nader Alfy, Dr. Ishak Agban, and Dr. Adel Fakhry, alongside numerous other professors, researchers, priests, monks, and individuals interested in Coptic studies.
