Today (Wednesday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II welcomed Counselor Ahmed Aboud, President of the State Council, and his accompanying delegation at the Papal headquarters in Cairo.

The Pope warmly greeted his guests, expressing his appreciation for the important role the State Council plays in supporting justice and equality. He emphasized the significance of the various pillars that constitute Egyptian society, highlighting the need for integration and cooperation among them to achieve and support the stability and strength of the nation. He added: “The stronger the judiciary, the stronger the state.”

Counselor Ahmed Aboud expressed his gratitude and respect for Pope Tawadros and the Coptic Orthodox Church, commending its role in promoting values of love and cohesion among Egyptians. He expressed his hope for enduring love and unity among the nation’s people.

His Holiness affirmed that although the Coptic Orthodox Church is the oldest grassroots institution in Egypt, it has never involved itself in political work since its inception. Instead, it focuses on its spiritual, social, and national role.

The meeting also addressed the growing phenomenon of atheism, which has been spreading notably through social media. The discussion highlighted the importance of joint efforts between the Church and Al-Azhar to counteract these aggressive campaigns targeting society. In this context, Counselor Ahmed Aboud sought the Pope’s advice on how to safeguard Egypt’s youth.

His Holiness pointed out that atheism is not a local issue but a global one. However, the deeply religious nature of Egyptian society makes its effects more noticeable. Pope Tawadros explained that safeguarding our children depends on three main pillars:

1.⁠ ⁠Dialogue: maintaining continuous communication with our children and listening to their thoughts.
2.⁠ ⁠Love: strengthening mutual love, as a loved person is capable of loving others. Pope Tawadros referenced the words of Solomon the Wise: “A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb” (Proverbs 27:7).
3.⁠ ⁠Observation: monitoring our children and the content they encounter online, ensuring they are not left vulnerable to destructive ideas spread on certain platforms.

The meeting concluded with all parties emphasizing the importance of cooperation between religious and judicial institutions to strengthen spiritual and social values, and preserve the unity of Egyptian society.
