Today (Thursday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II received Ambassador Nader Zaki, Egypt’s Ambassador to the Philippines, at the Papal Residence in Cairo. The ambassador was accompanied by Dr. Ibrahim Amin, the legal advisor to the embassy.
During the meeting, Ambassador Zaki spoke about his previous service in various countries around the world and praised the tangible role of the Coptic Church in those nations. He also expressed his eagerness to learn more about the Coptic Church and its services in the Philippines.
In turn, His Holiness emphasized the Coptic Church’s commitment to serving the communities where it is present abroad and providing services in the name of Egypt. He noted that there is a Coptic bishop serving in the Philippines; His Grace Bishop Reweis.
The ambassador highlighted his interest in securing a suitable location to establish a Coptic church in the Philippines and his focus on promoting tourism to Egypt, including religious tourism. He also pointed out the Philippines’ excellence in the field of nursing and expressed his intention to transfer such expertise for use in Egypt.
Pope Tawadros affirmed the importance of religious tourism, pointing to Egypt’s distinction with the Holy Family’s Trail as one of the unique tourist attractions for visitors.
