Today (Thursday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II welcomed Ambassador Yasser Shaban, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Cultural Relations, at the Papal Residence in Cairo. He was accompanied by Ambassador Marwa Hegazy, the director of his office, and Advisor Tarek Ghoneim from his office.
During the meeting, they discussed the role of Coptic churches abroad and ways to enhance cooperation between the church and the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His Holiness shared several ideas related to cultural affairs and promoting cultural exchange.
Pope Tawadros provided an overview of the Coptic churches spread across the world, emphasizing the importance of preserving Egyptian history, especially the Holy Family’s Trail.
His Holiness also highlighted the Church’s efforts to encourage Coptic doctors in the diaspora to organize medical convoys that offer humanitarian aid in African and Latin American countries. These services, offered in Egypt’s name, aim to serve these communities, enhance Egypt’s positive image, and leave a favorable international impression.
Ambassador Shaban requested prior access to the schedules of medical convoys, exhibitions, and external activities organized by the Church to provide necessary support. He emphasized the significance of His Holiness’ visits to Coptic churches abroad in strengthening Egypt’s international image.
Pope Tawadros invited the Assistant Minister to attend the fifth Logos Youth Forum for Coptic Youth worldwide, scheduled for the coming August. He explained that the Church refers to the participating youth as “Ambassadors of Joy.”
Regarding the Holy Family’s Trail, Ambassador Marwa Hegazy noted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ interest in promoting religious tourism. She suggested highlighting the celebration of the Holy Family’s entry into Egypt through Egyptian embassies’ social media platforms. His Holiness mentioned that this celebration is held on June 1st and is globally recognized in Coptic churches abroad as “Global Coptic Day.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Yasser Shaban affirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ desire to strengthen collaboration with the Coptic Orthodox Church, in accordance with the directives of the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Badr Abdelatty. The ministry aims to organize more joint activities that serve national goals and enhance Egypt’s international presence.
