This Sunday morning, a delegation from the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church, representing H.H. Pope Tawadros II, arrived in Asmara to participate in the election of the sixth patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
The Coptic delegation consists of His Eminence Metropolitan Danial (Metropolitan of Maadi and Secretary of the Holy Synod), His Grace Bishop Angelos (General Bishop of the Churches of Northern Shoubra), His Grace Bishop Bigol (Bishop and Abbot of the Monastery of Al-Muharraq), and His Grace Bishop Dioscorus (Bishop and Abbot of the Monastery of St. John the Short on the Alamein Road).
The delegation was received at Asmara International Airport by His Grace Abuna Petros, Acting Patriarch of the Holy Synod, along with metropolitans and bishops. Following an exchange of welcoming and goodwill messages during a reception ceremony, they proceeded to their place of accommodation.
A fraternal meeting was held, during which members of the Eritrean Holy Synod and the Egyptian delegation discussed issues of mutual interest, historical relations, and the election of the new patriarch.
It is worth noting that there is a signed protocol between the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, mandating the participation of either Church in the election procedures of the new patriarch.
