H.H. Pope Tawadros II extended his congratulations to the members of the Coptic Orthodox Church on the beginning of the month of Kiahk. He described it as the month of praise, during which we prepare for the Lord Christ’s birth.
This announcement came before the start of his weekly sermon during the Wednesday meeting held this evening at the Church of Virgin Mary and St. George in El Shorouk City.
His Holiness also congratulated the congregation of the El Shorouk church on the launch of a project to establish a new school affiliated with the church. This initiative is part of the “Eyes of Egypt” series being implemented by the Coptic Orthodox Church across various regions in the country. The initiative aligns with the Pope’s vision of supporting education in Egypt.
Pope Tawadros highlighted the historical significance of the Coptic school established in Damanhur in 1901. At the time, there was debate among the local congregation about whether to build a church or a school. The proponents of building a school prevailed, and the school went on to educate prominent figures such as Saint Pope Kirollos VI, the late Pope Shenouda III, and Pope Tawadros himself. This, he noted, underscores the importance of schools in shaping generations that serve society.
He also emphasized that schools established by the Coptic Church are well-regarded for prioritizing moral upbringing alongside high-quality education. Contributing to the construction of a school, he said, is a significant act, likening it to a gift for the future.
His Holiness described the new school project in El Shorouk as ambitious, stating that it will be a source of pride for all contributors. He noted that the best investment is in people, as the school will nurture generations and serve all Egyptians. He encouraged the community, especially in this emerging city with new families, to contribute to the project, ensuring a lasting legacy for their children and grandchildren.
Pope Tawadros concluded by recalling a teaching from Pope Shenouda III: “When there is intent, God provides the means.” He remarked that this principle has been tested and proven in numerous situations.
