Today (Friday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II received Mrs. Maggie Gobran, a pioneer in community work, at the Papal Residence in Cairo, along with leaders of the institutions that collaborate with her in various fields.
Pope Tawadros welcomed them, got to know each individual and the field they serve in, and commended their efforts in education, development, and healthcare. He expressed his happiness at meeting them and his great appreciation for the significant roles they play in serving society and the Egyptian people.
His Holiness delivered a spiritual talk emphasizing the importance of love, noting that it:
• Precedes service.
• Precedes giving.
• Precedes joy.
He referenced the verse: “The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5).
The meeting also featured video presentations showcasing the activities and services they provide.
Mrs. Maggie Gobran, known as “Mama Maggie,” is a former professor of Computer Science at the American University in Cairo. She left her academic career in 1989 to dedicate herself to serving underprivileged and marginalized children. She founded the charitable organization: Stephan’s Children, which aims to improve the living conditions of children and families in the poorest areas of Upper Egypt’s villages and the slums of Cairo. Joined by volunteers including business leaders and young professionals, she established two schools in underprivileged areas, numerous nurseries, and shelters for children. The organization also provides healthcare and developmental services.
