Today (Saturday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II received His Eminence the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, along with Dr. Nazir Ayad, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, Minister of Religious Endowments, Dr. Salama Dawood, President of Al-Azhar University, and other leaders of Al-Azhar and the Egyptian Family House at the Papal Residence in Cairo to offer their greetings for the Glorious Feast of Nativity.
The Pope delivered a welcoming speech to his guests, expressing his joy at their visit and greetings. He emphasized that the birth of Christ calls upon us to glorify God through our deeds, make peace, and spread joy in hearts.
He added: “We pray for all regions suffering from wars and crises and for our country to continue enjoying the blessings of peace, stability, and security.”
For his part, His Eminence the Grand Imam stated, “We have come here to renew the bonds of affection, friendship, and brotherhood,” noting the historical harmony between Muslims and Christians in Egypt. He also expressed hope that God alleviates suffering and eases the struggles of nations facing hardships and crises, especially in Gaza.
The Minister of Religious Endowments delivered a heartfelt speech, praying for God’s preservation of Egypt and its people until the end of time.
Meanwhile, the Grand Mufti extended his heartfelt greetings to the Pope and all Christians on the occasion, expressing his happiness at this gathering.
