On Saturday evening, H.H. Pope Tawadros II prayed the Lakkan and the Liturgy of the Glorious Feast of Epiphany (also known ecclesiastically as the Feast of Theophany or Theophania) at Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria.
Participating in the prayers, which concluded early Sunday morning, were the General Bishops overseeing the pastoral sectors in Alexandria: H.G. Bishop Bavly (Montazah Sector), H.G. Bishop Elarion (West Sector), and H.G. Bishop Hermina (East Sector). Also present were Hegumen Abraam Emil (General Deputy of the Patriarchate in Alexandria), the church’s priests and some other clergy from Alexandria, as well as a large number of students from the Clerical College and a great multitude of congregants from the churches of Alexandria, who filled the cathedral.
The liturgy was attended by Archimandrite Damaskinos Azraei, the new patriarchal vicar of the Greek Orthodox Church in Alexandria, to extend his greetings.
In his sermon, Pope Tawadros highlighted the close connection between the Feasts of Nativity and Epiphany, viewing them from three perspectives:
- Both represent the beginning of life.
- Both are occasions of joy and gladness.
- Both proclaim the revelation of the Holy Trinity.
His Holiness reflected on the verse: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). He emphasized that every person is called to become a beloved child of God by:
- Having a pure heart and tongue.
- Living faithfully in all aspects of life.
- Exhibiting acts of mercy.
