This morning, prayers for the enthronement of His Eminence Metropolitan Abune Basilios as the Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church were held at the Cathedral of Virgin Mary in the Eritrean capital, Asmara. He is the sixth patriarch of this sister Church, which was established in 1997 through the Coptic Orthodox Church.
A delegation from the Coptic Orthodox Church, along with representatives from various other Churches, participated in the enthronement prayers.
The Coptic delegation consisted of: H.E. Metropolitan Antonious (Metropolitan of the Jerusalem See and the Near East), H.E. Metropolitan Markos (Metropolitan of Shoubra El-Kheima), H.G. Metropolitan Bemen (Metropolitan of Naqada and Qus), H.G. Bishop Yoannis (Bishop of Asyuit) and H.G. Bishop Markos, (Bishop of Damietta and Kafr El-Sheikh).
On this occasion, H.H. Pope Tawadros II extends heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Abune Basilios, wishing him a blessed ministry and long, peaceful years in shepherding the members of the sister Eritrean Church.
