Today (Wednesday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II received the Nepalese Ambassador to Egypt; Ambassador Sushil Kumar Lamsal, at the Papal Residence in Cairo.
During their conversation, His Holiness discussed the seven civilizations that have shaped Egypt’s history, emphasizing the strong bonds among Egyptians and the unity of the national fabric, which has remained intact since the time of the Pharaohs until today. He also highlighted the good relations between the Coptic Orthodox Church and Egypt’s leadership, including the President, the government, the parliament, Al-Azhar, and various Churches in Egypt and around the world.
For his part, Ambassador Lamsal provided an overview of Nepal, describing it as a secular state that embraces religious diversity, where people live in harmony—similar to Egypt. He also mentioned the presence of Nepalese citizens working and studying in Egypt.
The meeting also touched on the role of the Coptic Orthodox Church in serving the Nepalese community in light of the presence of a Coptic Church there.
At the end of the visit, Pope Tawadros invited the ambassador to visit Coptic monasteries, explaining that Egypt was the birthplace of Christian monasticism. He noted that Saint Anthony was the first monk in history, and his monastery is considered the first in the world.
