This morning, H.H. Pope Tawadros II prayed the Divine Liturgy in St. Mark’s Cathedral, Abbassia. During the service, His Holiness ordained 19 new priests to serve in various areas of the Coptic Orthodox Church’s ministry in Egypt and abroad. The ordination was attended by a number of bishops and the General Deputy of the Patriarchate in Cairo.

A total of 15 priests were ordained for churches in Cairo, three for service in Africa, and one for California in the United States.

In his sermon, Pope Tawadros delivered an encouraging message based on the Gospel reading from Luke 12:4-12. He highlighted that this passage contains two promises and an importantly warning:

1. A Promise: “Do not be afraid”– A message of reassurance directed to us all, especially the newly ordained priests and their families, encouraging them not to fear the responsibilities of ministry or the future.

2. A Warning Against Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit– This refers to persistent sin. In the life of a priest, blasphemy can manifest in various ways, most notably through laziness, neglect, and lack of faithfulness.

3. A Promise: “You Are Not Forgotten Before God”– God never forgets the work done for His sake. He remembers:

Your repentance and purity of heart and mind.

Your reading and study of the Holy Bible.

Your personal prayers and prayers for your congregation as an intercessor on their behalf.

Your pastoral visits and continuous care for your people.

Your cheerful spirit in interactions with the congregation.
