This evening, H.H. Pope Tawadros II attended the opening session of the Alexandria Youth Council, which was held at the theater adjacent to the Papal Residence in the Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria.

The session included several speeches, including one by Father Dawood Wadie, the General Secretary for Youth Service in Alexandria. He expressed his appreciation for the Pope’s keen interest in following up on this service and his participation in the opening session. He also presented an overview of the council’s activities in the past period, along with its vision and work plan for the future.

Dr. Mina Ramsis, the program coordinator, explained that the initiative stems from His Holiness’ vision for youth service and is one of the fruits of previous youth forums.

A group of youth participants in the program then presented key topics and segments that had been covered in previous sessions.

Engineer Samah Salib, Director of the Youth Forums Office, praised the Church’s role under Pope Tawadros’ leadership, highlighting how it has introduced meaningful meetings, programs, and activities for youth both inside and outside Egypt.

The session concluded with a speech by His Holiness, who began by expressing his gratitude to the attending bishops, the General Deputy of the Patriarchate in Alexandria, and the priests for their efforts in nurturing a new initiative that serves the youth of Alexandria. He emphasized that this council represents a distinguished model for youth leadership and future service planning.

Pope Tawadros urged the youth to develop three key aspects in their personalities:

1. Spiritual: Strengthening their relationship with God through the Bible, prayers, fasting, and purity of heart.

2. Ecclesiastical: Deepening their connection with the Church, which began with baptism, was nurtured through the Eucharist, and refined through Sunday School.

3. National: Recognizing the blessing of living in Egypt, a land sanctified by the Lord Christ, and home to the only Apostolic See in Africa—located in Alexandria.

The Alexandria Youth Council consists of 50 male and female youth from various churches and pastoral sectors in Alexandria. Its goal is to train and develop young leaders for youth service in the city.

The event was attended by general bishops overseeing Alexandria’s pastoral sectors, as well as Father Abraam Emil, the General Deputy of the Patriarchate in Alexandria.
