His Holiness Pope Tawadros II met today with Mr. Marcel Ciolacu, Prime Minister of Romania, at Victoria Palace, the official headquarters of the Romanian government in the capital, Bucharest.
The Prime Minister welcomed His Holiness and the accompanying delegation, expressing his appreciation for the historic relations between Egypt and Romania, and for the Coptic Orthodox Church’s role in promoting the values of peace, dialogue, and openness.
For his part, His Holiness expressed his joy at the visit, affirming the depth of relations between the two peoples, and appreciating the Romanian state’s support for the Egyptian community and for the pastoral activities of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the country.
The meeting addressed a number of topics of mutual interest, particularly those related to coexistence, cultural dialogue, and strengthening ties between religious and spiritual institutions in both countries.
This meeting comes as part of His Holiness’s pastoral visit to the Diocese of Central Europe, which began with his arrival in Poland a few days ago. He departed Poland at the end of yesterday, arriving in Romania where he will spend several days engaged in pastoral activities and official visits.
