This morning, H.H. Pope Tawadros II received at the Papal Residence in Alexandria, a group of youth from the Church of Saint George and Saint Athanasius the Apostolic in Newcastle. The church is part of the Diocese of Ireland, Scotland, and North East England. The group arrived in Egypt this week, accompanied by their church priest, Father Bishoy Karam, to offer educational and awareness services in several churches across different regions in Egypt.
His Holiness expressed his happiness with the youth’s dedication and their enthusiastic efforts to serve their brothers and sisters in Egypt, traveling especially for this purpose.
He highlighted Egypt’s unique cultural, historical, and geographical status, and pointed to the distinctiveness of the Church of Alexandria, which stands on three pyramids of living faith:
-The Pyramid of Education and Service (sweat)
-The Pyramid of Martyrdom (blood)
-The Pyramid of Monasticism (tears)
After his speech, Pope Tawadros answered the youth’s questions and inquiries. At the end of the meeting, he presented them with some commemorative gifts and a symbolic passport from the HIGH office.
It is worth noting that this service visit was coordinated between the Diocese of Ireland, Scotland, and North East England, and the “HIGH” office, which is responsible for coordinating between Coptic Orthodox dioceses abroad and the regions in Egypt most in need of service. The office was established by a decree of the Holy Synod in its March 2024 session. The name “HIGH” stands for “Hands in God’s Hand”.
