This morning, at the Papal Residence in Cairo, H.H. Pope Tawadros II received H.G. Bishop Yoannis, Bishop of Assiut and Secretary of the Holy Synod, upon his return from an ecclesiastical mission in New Jersey, United States of America, which he undertook in the company of H.E. Metropolitan Youssef, Metropolitan of the Southern United States.
His Holiness reviewed the report submitted by His Grace following extensive meetings with H.G. Bishop Gabriel, General Bishop of New Jersey, as well as with the priests of the churches in Jersey City and New Jersey. His Holiness approved all the recommendations contained therein, praying for peace and blessing for all.
On Friday, August 22 of this year, the Feast of the Virgin Mary, His Holiness had also welcomed H.G. Bishop Yoannis after the conclusion of the celebrations of the Virgin at her monastery in Drunka, Assiut.
His Holiness was reassured by the large numbers of congregation who attended the festivities, conveying his appreciation to the Governor of Assiut for his attentiveness and personal visit. He also commended the efforts of all state institutions—security, legislative, executive, and local—praying for the intercession and blessing of the Virgin Mary upon our beloved country, Egypt.
