Today (Thursday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II received at the Papal Residence in Cairo, a delegation from the Danish Parliament’s Committee on Cultural Affairs, as part of their current visit to Egypt.
The members of the delegation expressed their delight in visiting Egypt and their keenness to strengthen cultural ties with both the Egyptian government and society, noting that Coptic history constitutes an integral part of Egypt’s civilization.
For his part, Pope Tawadros presented a brief overview of Egyptian history and its seven layers of civilization—Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic, Arab, African, Mediterranean, and Greco-Roman—emphasizing that the Nile River is the lifeline of Egyptians, a source of balance and spirit of worship, and that Egyptians are religious and live in harmony.
His Holiness further explained that relationships in Egypt are founded on active love, highlighting the strong bonds uniting the Coptic Church with His Excellency President El-Sisi, the government, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, as well as with all Christian denominations both inside and outside Egypt. He added that the Church plays both a spiritual and a social role in serving the people.
Regarding the Palestinian cause, Pope Tawadros stressed that: “peace between Egypt and Israel has endured for more than fifty years; however, what is happening in Gaza does not align with human values and cannot be accepted.” He expressed his confidence that: “wars will come to an end and that the future of the Middle East will be brighter.”
He concluded by affirming: “The Coptic Church is a traditional yet ever-renewing Church, continuing its spiritual and social mission with an openness to development.”
