H.H. Pope Tawadros II held a meeting today at the Papal Residence in Cairo with the General Committee responsible for organizing the Coptic Orthodox Church’s celebration marking seventeen centuries since the convening of the Council of Nicaea.
During the meeting, His Holiness listened to a presentation from the committee members outlining the general vision for the celebrations. He discussed with them the related arrangements and offered guidance to ensure that this historic ecclesiastical event is presented in a manner befitting its significance and that of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
It was agreed that the celebration will be held under the title “Nicaea: Our Living Faith.”
The Coptic Orthodox Church has decided to hold a major celebration from November 18 to 22 of this year, concluding its commemorations of seventeen centuries since the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea. The program will include a series of creative works focusing on the Council of Nicaea—its heroes, topics, resolutions, and the lessons derived from it. The aim is to shed light on the Council’s importance in Christian history and the role of the Coptic Church Fathers in it, thereby deepening the awareness of the Church’s members regarding these faith-based events and their contemporary relevance.
It is worth noting that the Coptic Orthodox Church previously held a regional celebration in May, attended by the three Patriarchs of the Oriental Orthodox Churches in the Middle East, commemorating the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.
At the international level, the Church hosted in October the sixth conference of the World Council of Churches as part of the same commemoration.
Meanwhile, the “Nicaea: Our Living Faith”
celebration will be held for the Coptic congregations across the Church’s dioceses in Egypt and abroad over five days during this current month.
