This morning, H.H. Pope Tawadros II received, at the Papal Residence in Cairo, Mr. Christian Cammell, the Swedish Envoy for Interfaith Dialogue, accompanied by Ambassador Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Sweden’s Ambassador to Egypt.
During the meeting, His Holiness offered an inspiring overview of Egypt’s ancient history, affirming that the unity of the Egyptian people is not a newly crafted slogan but a deeply rooted reality formed over thousands of years along the banks of the Nile.
Pope Tawadros explained that Egyptians have always lived as one family, united by one land, one river, and one destiny. From this deeply rooted coexistence, our natural national unity emerged, becoming one of the most significant sources of Egypt’s strength throughout the ages.
He also noted that the profound social bonds shared by Egyptians—Muslims and Christians—remain the cornerstone of the nation’s resilience and its enduring ability to face challenges with a unified spirit and common resolve.
His Holiness affirmed that the role of the Coptic Church is not limited to the spiritual dimension alone, but extends to a genuine national responsibility toward serving all segments of Egyptian society. He clarified that the Church provides developmental projects and services that benefit all Egyptians without discrimination, foremost among them Coptic schools and hospitals, which embody a steadfast humanitarian mission expressing love for the nation and its people.
Pope Tawadros further emphasized the strength of the relationships that link the Coptic Orthodox Church with all Christian Churches and denominations, highlighting that the Church maintains strong ties with Byzantine and Eastern Churches as a natural extension of the spirit of Christian brotherhood throughout history.
His Holiness concluded by reaffirming that the Coptic Church constantly prays for the peace of all Churches and for the peace of the entire world, believing that the message of love and peace is the essence of ecclesial work and the foundation of the strength of Christian witness everywhere.
