Yesterday evening, H.H. Pope Tawadros II received at the Papal Residence in Cairo, Reverend Dr. Vilmos Fischl, Secretary General of the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Hungary. He was accompanied by H.G. Bishop János Szemerei, Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and H.G. Bishop Dezső Zoltán Adorjáni, Lutheran Bishop of Transylvania, along with the Hungarian Ambassador to Egypt, Ms. Rita Herenčár.
During the meeting, His Holiness presented an overview of the history of the Coptic Orthodox Church, highlighting its active role and membership in the World Council of Churches, the All Africa Conference of Churches, the Middle East Council of Churches, as well as the Council of Churches of Egypt, which includes the various Christian denominations in the country. He emphasized the depth of the cordial relations that unite the Coptic Church with all Churches both within Egypt and abroad.
The members of the delegation expressed their delight at visiting Egypt and meeting His Holiness, praising the esteemed status of the Coptic Orthodox Church as one of the oldest Christian churches and its role in preserving the faith. They also recalled the legacy of Saint Athanasius the Apostolic and expressed their admiration for the Church’s strength and continuity throughout the ages, as well as the model it presents for peaceful coexistence.
