H.H. Pope Tawadros II: The Holy Family’s Visit Has Left a Profound Mark on the Conscience of the Egyptian People

His Holiness Pope Tawadros II received Ms. Isabelle Rome, the French Ambassador for Human Rights, today, Monday, at the Papal Residence in Cairo.

During the meeting, His Holiness presented an overview of Egypt’s history, emphasizing that peaceful coexistence among Egyptians is an inherent characteristic of Egyptian society. He noted that the Egyptian people are united by a deeply rooted national identity that has developed throughout history along the banks of the Nile, and that the relationships among the nation’s citizens are founded on love, which is translated into tangible actions and everyday practices.

His Holiness also highlighted the significant progress Egypt has made in recent years in strengthening the values of citizenship and equality. He cited several examples, foremost among them the annual visit of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral on the eve of the Glorious Feast of the Nativity to extend his greetings, describing it as a clear expression of the spirit of love and national unity.

The meeting also addressed the role of the Egyptian Family House (Beit Al-Aila Al-Masriya). His Holiness affirmed that it represents a unique and successful model for promoting a culture of dialogue, mutual understanding, citizenship, and peaceful coexistence among all Egyptians.

His Holiness further emphasized that Egypt is distinguished by its ancient history, enduring civilization, and unique geographical location, as well as by its deeply rooted spirit of faith, which gives Egyptian society a distinctive character unlike that of many other nations. He also noted that one of Egypt’s greatest blessings is that it welcomed the Holy Family during their journey, as they lived on and blessed its land. Their presence has left a profound imprint on the hearts of the Egyptian people and has, across generations, reinforced the values of peace, love, and peaceful coexistence among all citizens.

His Holiness also reviewed the Coptic Orthodox Church’s role in serving Egyptian society through the establishment of schools and hospitals, the provision of healthcare services, support for small-scale enterprises, and outreach to the country’s most underprivileged villages. He stressed that these services are offered to all members of society without discrimination and contribute to strengthening the values of love, fraternity, and solidarity among Egyptians.
