H.G. Bishop Youhanna, the General Bishop, reposed in the Lord in a blessed old age in the United States of America, at approximately 76 years of age.

His Grace devoted more than 50 years to the monastic life, including 35 years of episcopal service as a General Bishop.

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” (Revelation 14:13)

H.H. Pope Tawadros II and the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church bid farewell to the Paradise of Joy the Thrice-Blessed H.G. Bishop Youhanna, the General Bishop, who reposed in the Lord today at approximately 76 years of age, following more than half a century of monastic life, including 35 years of service as a General Bishop.

The revered departed Bishop dedicated himself wholly to God, leaving the world and journeying into the wilderness, walking the path of monasticism in order to gain Christ and be found in Him.

When he was called to receive the episcopal rank, he submitted and served with complete sincerity, offering a dedicated and faithful ministry. His years of service as secretary to the Thrice-Blessed H.H. Pope Shenouda III bear witness to his devotion and love for the Church, as well as his diligence and faithfulness in all things.
For approximately twenty years, he had been dealing with health conditions that required him to receive ongoing medical treatment in the United States. There, he continued to serve faithfully and quietly, as was always his way.

As we bid him farewell today in the hope of the Resurrection, we are confident that he will hear the blessed words from the divine mouth:

“Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” (Matthew 25:21)

May his pure soul rest in peace, and may consolation be granted to his family, all those whom he served, and everyone who knew him.

Arrangements for the Funeral Prayer of the Thrice-Blessed H.G. Bishop Youhanna, the General Bishop

It has been decided that the funeral prayer will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Church of the Virgin Mary in Minnesota, USA.

The prayers will begin with the Divine Liturgy from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral prayer from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
