Today (Wednesday), H.H. Pope Tawadros II met with university professors and faculty members from the various faculties of Alexandria University at the theatre adjacent to the Papal Residence in Alexandria.
This meeting, which was held for the first time, comes within the framework of His Holiness’ interest in honouring emeritus professors and serving faculty members in recognition of their efforts and the academic and humanitarian educational mission they carry out across various fields of the sciences of life.
The meeting included a presentation explaining the concept and objectives of the gathering, followed by a series of videos and various segments, including a cultural salon moderated by a number of professors with Pope Tawadros. During the session, His Holiness responded to their questions and inquiries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, His Holiness expressed his greetings for the occasion of the Glorious Feast of the Transfiguration, which the Coptic Orthodox Church celebrated today. His Holiness emphasised that a university professor represents a model of many virtues, including:
- A model of diligence: in both knowledge and life.
- A model of encouragement: A university professor should be an encourager to many who are beginning their journey in life, particularly in light of the challenges and difficulties he has encountered throughout his own journey. His Holiness stressed that encouragement creates a living image of success.
- A model of spiritual character: As an ambassador for Christ, the professor is expected to bear His image and convey His message. Moreover, he should be distinguished and creative and, ultimately, be a light to the world.
Pope Tawadros subsequently honoured the emeritus professors, as well as the serving professors and associate professors.
The meeting was attended by Their Graces Bishop Pavly (General Bishop of the Churches of the El-Montazah Sector), and Bishop Hermina (General Bishop of the Churches of the Eastern Alexandria Sector), as well as Hegumen Abraam Emil (General Deputy of the Patriarchate in Alexandria).
