H.H. Pope Tawadros II attended the celebration held by the Church of St. George and St. Theodore Prince at Nozha Airport in Alexandria, on the occasion of its consecration by His Holiness. The celebration followed the conclusion of the consecration prayers and the Divine Liturgy.
The celebration included a documentary chronicling the church’s journey of construction and service, which has extended for more than 65 years. Following the film, Hegumen Abraam Bishondy, priest of the church, spoke about its history, the various stages of its construction, and the challenges of serving there in its early years. He expressed his gratitude to His Holiness for consecrating the church, which is particularly dear to his heart and is among the churches in Alexandria that His Holiness visited most frequently during his time as General Bishop of the Diocese of Beheira. He also praised His Holiness’ enlightened vision and creativity.
Hegumen Abraam Emil (General Deputy of the Patriarchate in Alexandria), spoke about God’s work in the church and among its distinguished congregation, known for their generosity, love, and praise. He also spoke of God’s evident work through the devoted priests of the church: Hegumen Abraam Bishondy, whom he described as one of the sources of grace in the church; Fr. Philopater Fahmy, distinguished by his love for the saints and perseverance; and Fr. Kyrillos Saeed, the engineer, driving force, and source of youthful energy within the church.
In conclusion, H.H. Pope Tawadros II expressed his joy at the blessed day of the church’s consecration and at God’s work in this blessed church. His Holiness expressed his gratitude to the security personnel for their efforts in making all the arrangements for the visit. He also thanked all the fathers, deacons, and servants, emphasizing the importance of the church’s congregation remaining closely connected to its services and Divine Liturgies.
