Holy Bible
General Introduction to the Holy Bible
First: Its Purpose
The salvation of Christ presented to humanity, which He created then fell, and no one can save us except Christ the Saviour. Salvation appears in the Old Testament through the fathers, commandments, laws, sacrifices, prophets, and clear symbols of Christ, and then announcing this salvation clearly in the New Testament to the whole world so that whoever believes in Him would have eternal life after death, as He leads us to His Kingdom.
Secondly: Its Greatness
1- Its stability: despite the fact that it is 3500 years old since the beginning of its writing until now, and it was subjected to many attacks from philosophers and opponents, however, it remains strong, because it is the voice of God and His messages to man. Despite its age, it is still alive, presenting something new every day to its reader, because it is God’s words that never stops working in us. Christ Himself witnessed it “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” (Matthew 24:35).
2- Its Unity: The Bible contains 73 books and about 40 writers, including the king like David and Solomon, the shepherd like Amos, the intellectual from the royal family like Isaiah, the philosopher like Paul the Apostle, the fisherman like Peter, the tax collector like Matthew, the doctor like Luke, the poet, the writer and the painter, etc.
Despite all of this, it is interconnected with one thought, which is the salvation of man through Christ, because of God’s revelation working in all writers who preserved their characteristics, but the book has one spirit and one thought.
3- Fulfilling its promises: The book in the Old and New Testaments prophesied many prophecies that were fulfilled after tens and hundreds of years and were not accepted at the time when they were said because they differed from the surrounding reality, such as prophecies about the fall of the Assyrian and Babylonian empires and like the return of the Children of Israel from captivity and the destruction of Jerusalem and its great structure, and most importantly of all the prophecies which came about Christ the Savior of humanity who have fallen into sin.
Thirdly: Its Sections
It is divided into two eras, the Old Testament, which is before the birth of Christ, and then the New Testament, which is after His birth.
