In line with the state’s efforts to increase the penalties imposed on the issue of (female circumcision)… The Papal Office for Projects, in cooperation with the National Council for Women (Cairo Branch), held several awareness sessions on the new amendments to the Penal Code regarding the criminalization of female circumcision, and published the campaign’s legal messages and a simplified theoretical explanation of the amendment’s provisions. The new law and its penalties, as well as addressing messages related to the psychological and health effects of circumcision, as well as the Church’s point of view that prohibits it.
