Pope Mina II departed on the year 691 of the martyrs (947 A.D.), He was the 61st patriarch of the See of St Mark. He was born and raised in a village called Sandala to Christian parents. His parents forced him to marry. He agreed with his wife to live a celibate life. With his wife’s permission, he went into the wilderness of Scetis where he became a monk in the monastery of St. Macarius. He lived a virtuous life.
Fr. Mina was chosen for patriarchy following the departure of Pope Theophanes, the 60th patriarch. He was consecrated on the 11th of Kiakh in the year 673 of the martyrs (956 A.D). Some congregation members opposed Pope Mina as he was married. However, their views changed and they obeyed him when they realised he lived a celibate life with his wife.
This saint faced many tribulations which he endured with patience, fasting and prayers. He departed in peace after being on the throne for 18 years.
