– He was a monk in the monastery of Abou Makar (St. Macarius the Great), and he was chosen to be the Patriarch with the name Peter (Boutros). He was known for his meekness, godliness, and knowledge
– In his days, his people suffered greatly because of a judge in a city who had imprisoned a Copt under the pretext that his grandfather was not Christian and wanted to force him to deny the faith
– When the Copt refused, the Christians brought him out of prison, so violence arose against all the Copts of the city as many were tortured and even graves were raided, and bodies were burned
– The governor was greatly concerned, so he submitted a complaint to the Sultan of Egypt, who removed the judge from his post
– He sanctified the Myron oil in the Monastery of St. Macarius the Great with twelve bishops
– Another severe hardship affected the Pope and all the people which required all to stay in their homes for a while, until it seemed that they had become extinct
– The Pope did not stop praying for his people until God took way these hardships, and the Church enjoyed an atmosphere of calm and comfort that the Pope experienced until he departed in peace
