H.H. Pope Tawadros II consecrated the two altars and icons of the Church of St. Mark the Apostle in Maadi, in commemoration of 50 years passing since the inauguration of the church. H.H. consecrated the main altar on the ground level of the church under the name of the Virgin St. Mary and the side altar located on the first floor under the name of St. Mina the Martyr and Wonderworker. At seven o’clock in the morning, H.H. arrived at the church accompanied by H.G. Bishop Daniel, Bishop of Maadi & El-Basateen and General Secretary of the Holy Synod. Before beginning the consecration prayers, H.H. mentioned how this was his second visit to the church, the first dating back to Wednesday September 9, 2015 when H.H. delivered one of his weekly Wednesday lectures there at the church.
Also, joining in the consecration prayers of the Church of St. Mark the Apostle were 10 bishops, two of whom were Metropolitans. H.H. consecrated the church’s two altars, iconostasis and sanctuary. Their Graces the 10 bishops began with the ‘First and Second Incense’ consecration prayers before H.H. arrived and led the ‘Third Incense’ prayer comprising of the consecration of the altars, iconostasis and sanctuary with the Holy Myron oil. Along with H.G. Bishop Daniel, Bishop of Maadi & El-Basateen and General Secretary of the Holy Synod, the following bishops were also present: H.G. Bishop Bissada, Metropolitan of Akhmim (served in the church prior to his entrance into monasticism); H.G. Bishop Markos, Metropolitan of Shubra el-Kheima; H.G. Bishop Martyros, General Bishop of the Churches in East of the Railroad Region, Cairo; H.G. Bishop Dometius, Bishop of October City and Ausim; H.G. Bishop Youlyous, General Bishop of the churches in Old Cairo and Administrator of the Bishopric of Social Services; H.G. Bishop Angelos, General Bishop of the churches in Northern Shoubra; H.G. Bishop Klemandos, General Bishop of the churches in El-Hagana & Almaza, Cairo; H.G. Bishop Mikhail, General Bishop of the churches in Hadayek El-Kobba, El-Wailly & Mansheyat El-Sadr; H.G. Bishop Sedarous, General Bishop of the churches in Ezbet el-Nakhl; and H.G. Bishop Axios, general bishop of the churches in Ain Shams & El-Matareya.
