Today H.H. Pope Tawadros II received a phone call from Pope Francis I, Pope of the Vatican, on the occasion of the Day of Friendship between the Coptic Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church marking today’s date: Monday.
During the phone call they both exchanged their greetings on the occasion of the Glorious Feast of the Resurrection, emphasizing the meaning it signifies for our daily lives. H.H. Pope Francis expressed his appreciation for the Libyan martyrs of the faith and the nation; for their witness to the Christian faith which was confirmed by H.H. Pope Tawadros who in return extended his wishes to Pope Francis on the occasion of the ‘Day of Friendship’ between the two Churches (May 10). Correspondingly, Pope Francis expressed his wish to meet once again when the pandemic ends, and that it was a joyous day in spite of their inability to hold any celebrations owing to the current circumstances due to Covid-19. Likewise, H.H. Pope Tawadros felt similarly and thanked him for his recent visit to Iraq describing it as a blessed and successful visit, adding that itreminded him of Pope Francis’ previous visit to Egypt in 2017.Pope Francis characterized his visit to Iraq as gesture of loveand affection to a people who have suffered greatly. Afterwards, they both thanked and asked each other to pray for the Church, the world and the Middle East region as well as current issue with Ethiopia – that it may be resolved quickly and peacefully.
Today is the 8th anniversary of the Day of Friendship between the Coptic Orthodox Church and Catholic Church which H.H. Pope Tawadros and H.H. Pope Francis jointly agreed to commemorate during their meeting at the Vatican on May 10, 2013.
