Today at the Papal Residence in Cairo, H.H. Pope Tawadros II received a media delegation from the Republic Of Sudan and accompanied them a delegation from Egyptian Ministry of State for information headed by the Minister’s Assistant Brigade Nasser Reda.
The delegation included a number of journalists and news casters in the Sudanese Television and Radio.
His Holiness welcomed members of the delegation and their companions praising the relationship that ties Egypt and Sudan describing it that it is a relation that extends through History and Geography, since the river Nile ties them in the heart
Then He talked about Egypt pointing that it witnessed several successive civilizations in continuation through the ages of pharaonic, Christian and Islamic. Then because it’s proximity to the Mediterranean sea, was affected by both the Roman and Greek civilizations.
In addition to it’s location in the African content and the entrance of the Arab culture which added to an accumulation of a great knowledge and cultural balance in the Egyptian awareness.
Also H.H. pointed that the Egyptians considered the Nile is their father and earth is their mother, and they consume their 4 things from the River Water, peacefulness and balanced life, normal civil unity and Spirit of worship.
As for the relationship with Sudan H.H. said that He visited Sudan twice (before Papacy) in the years of 2001 and 2003 and He toured several Cities and described it with it’s beauty and kindness of it’s people.
For the Coptic Church H.H. said that it is from the oldest churches in the world and was established in the first century through Saint Mark one of the apostles of Christ, He was Martyred in Alexandria, for this the Title of the Coptic Orthodox Pope is (Pope Of Alexandria).
As for the basic responsibilities that the Coptic Church takes care of, His Holiness said: We have the spiritual responsibility which is that all mankind knows God to reach Heaven and a Social responsibility through it we serve the society in establishing Schools and Hospitals …etc. to serve the Egyptians.
As for the Coptic Sudanese Church H.H. said: We have 2 Bishops in Sudan and they are H.G. Bishop Elia of Khartoum and he is of Sudanese decent and H.G. Bishop Sarabamon of Atbara and Omdurman which was granted the Sudanese Citizenship.
For the relationship with the State institutions His Holiness said “Our relations are excellent with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and with the Government and Azhar Institute and the Parliament and with various Christian Churches.”
As for the development with what’s happening in Egypt H.H. said: There is a great developmental movement under the leadership of the President and if you visit the New Administrative Capital you will notice the Amazing development that Egypt is going through and you will find the Mosque and Church that the President opened on January 6th 2019.
Then H.H. answered some questions for the members of the delegation, and in the end H.H. gave out some gifts and memorable pictures were taken with His Holiness.
