H.H. Pope Tawadros II preached his weakly sermon at Wednesday meeting this evening from the Papal residence in Cairo. It was aired exclusively through Cristian’s channels and C.O.C channel that is affiliated to the church’s media center via internet without audience.
H.H. started from the beginning of September a new serious of sermons in his weekly Wednesday’s meeting throw out Psalm 37 titled by “Lessons of Wisdom” and the “The Wise Person is a Faithful Person” subject is the eleventh lesson in this serious.
The sermon was a reflection on verses 21-24 and 30-31 from Psalm 37, whereby H.H. discussed the point that a wise person is a loyal person, and that the greatest image of this faithfulness and loyalty was demonstrated from the cross, for while He was in His greatest pain, the Lord Christ committed St. John the apostle to take care of Virgin Mary, likewise, He also committed Virgin Mary to take care of His disciple, John, teaching us that a loyal person honors their father and mother.
Consequently, the stages and steps of such a person’s life will be steadfast, and strong in every area of their life, whether in their Church-life, in their Church ministry service, in their community, in their nation, and in humanity as a whole.
Also, H.H. recounted the characteristic traits of the virtue of loyalty and of a loyal person, according to Psalm 37.
- He serves others – compared to “the wicked person, he borrows and does not repay, but the righteous shows mercy and gives” (verse 21).
- He is a blessed person – “For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, but those cursed by Him shall be cut off” (verse 22).
- He brings joy to others – “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way” (verse 23).
- He supports others and helps them – “Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand” (verse 24).
- He is pure and the Holy Word (Scripture) remains dwelling in his heart – “The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of justice. The law of his God is in his heart” (verses 30-31).
- He will be steadfast, firm – “None of his steps shall slide” (verse 31).
Summary
The summary of the Pope’s message is that a wise person is wise because he is faithful (loyal), and that a person’s wisdom is revealed in their mercy, their being blessed, their giving to others, their joy, their service, their steadfastness, and their loyalty.
A person should live by the principle of loyalty and teach it to their children, and if you wish to be wise, stay committed to being a loyal person and practicing faithfulness/loyalty in your life.
