H.H. Pope Tawadros II gave this weekly Wednesday sermon from Transfiguration Church at the Papal Residence at the Logos Center at St. Bishoy’s Monastery in Wadi El-Natroun.
The sermon was broadcast live on several Christian satellite television channels as well as over the Internet on the Church’s Coptic Media Center channel, COC, with only a few people in attendance. His Holiness commented on the limited attendance saying that the reason for this is to serve as a necessary precaution in order to avoid our further spreading of the Corona virus, until God commands for the lifting up of this pandemic.
His Holiness the Pope begun a new series of contemplations under the title: Profound sermons delivered in short statements. Today is the first of these sermons and it comes from the statement our Lady Mother Mary made, and it is found in the Gospel of St. John Chapter 2:5, in it she says: “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
The Pope commented on the spiritual meanings being communicated to us through this statement, specifically that the statement “whatever He says to you,” is in reference to the Commandments of the Holy Bible, the Scriptures.
The Scriptures carry 3 main features:
1-They are a grace over our life; a gift from God
2-They are the declaration of God’s continuous, abiding love for humans
3-They are the Light, by which a person can know/understand the will of the LORD
His Holiness the Pope also talked about how we can put the Word of God into practice in our lives, through:
1- Deep understanding and good assimilation
2- By being trained in the Word of God from a very early age
3- Knowing that if the Commandment is broken, the door of repentance is always open
His Holiness the Pope tells us that in this short sermon-statement, our Lady the Virgin was alerting us as to how we can live a life of peace while we are here on earth, as we make our journey toward heaven. We do this by the keeping of the Commandments of the Holy Bible, because “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Tim 3:16).
In observance of the many feasts and celebrations during the month of January, there were no Wednesday meetings during that entire month. H.H. the Pope resumed the Wednesday meeting, this being the first of the New Year. This sermon is also the first in a new sermon series entitled, “Profound sermons delivered in short statements.” All the sermons in this series will come from short statements found in the Holy Bible and from the sayings of the saints. They are composed of just a few words yet carry great messages of significant benefit for our lives.
