His Holiness Pope Tawadros II inaugurated today the service project “AL FOLK” of the Diocese of Tanta, in order to deal with Egyptians with special abilities, “Down Syndrome” heroes.
His Eminence Metropolitan Poula, Metropolitan of Tanta, received His Holiness upon his arrival in Tanta, where His Holiness visited the Church of Martyr St. George in the village of Hessa Akwa, affiliated to the diocese, and the village in which the “AL FOLK” project is located.

A documentary film about “AL FOLK” was shown, and His Eminence Metropolitan Poula had a dialogue with a group of Down Syndrome heroes, and several words were delivered and concluded with a speech by His Holiness, during which he saluted the idea of the project, which would represent a great addition to society, and to the idea’s owner (H.E. Metropolitan Poula), who put all his pastoral experiences And life in this project, and the beneficiary of the idea, who are the heroes of Down syndrome, their families and the people of the village in which the project is established.
A press conference was held during which His Holiness answered the journalists’ questions, in conjunction with His Eminence Metropolitan Poula and the ministers.
His Holiness inspected the project sections and expressed his admiration for the equipment and the vision that guides the work in it.
The “AL FOLK” project is the first project in the Middle East that specialized in rehabilitating Down Syndrome heroes and helping them in a scientific way to integrate into society. It is a non-profit project that provides its services to all Egyptians, free of charge.
And “AL FOLK” is located on an area of more than six thousand square meters in the village of “Hessa Akwa”, Kafr El-Zayat Center, Gharbia Governorate. The project provides integrated services to treat, rehabilitate, train and develop the skills of Down Syndrome champions, whether through full residency inside the “AL FOLK” headquarters for those over 18 years old or by visiting it for those under 18 years old. It also provides training and rehabilitation services for families to deal with their children properly.
