Today, the Consecrated Deacon, Dr. Noshy Abdel-Shahid, Professor of Patristicology rested in the Lord, at the age of 91 years, after many years of service in ecclesiastical education.
He is considered one of the most prominent specialists in patrology in the Coptic Orthodox Church. He founded the Center for Patriarchal Studies in Cairo, and a large number of specialized researchers studied under him, in addition to his translations and writings that enriched the Coptic and Arabic Christian libraries.
His Holiness sent a message of condolence in which he spoke about the importance of the role and service of the deceased. He said:
We bid farewell to the hope of Resurrection Dr Noshy Abdel-Shaheed. We bid him farewell to a faithful servant, patristic teacher, devoted devotee, and also a sober writer who enriched the Coptic Library with dozens of writings and translations that are considered rich spiritual and patristic references.
He also became the father of many who was disciples at his hands in the service of the Church, and he encouraged them to read, research and study, and opened up for them the fields of abundant biblical and authentic patristic knowledge.
It is a great scientific and spiritual loss in the life of our Coptic Orthodox Church.
We bid him farewell to a high ecclesiastical stature, who has strong relations with most of the Church Fathers.
We ask for his prayers on our behalf so that Christ may complete our path and service for the sake of His holy name.
